Steve Thomas Memorial Auction/Wine Reception/Banquet/President's Reception

Friday Evening, March 30, 2012

Please be sure to join us in congratulating newly elected officers as you engage in fun competitive bidding on great auction items donated by NAFP members.  The NAFP Foundation wants to make this fundraiser an even greater success than in previous years and we need your help!  The NAFP Steve Thomas Memorial Auction each year raises money to support our specialty of family medicine.   Foundation programs, including scholarships for students, residents, and new physicians,  Family Medicine Interest Group meetings and leadership training for medical students, medical education programs (free to medical students and residents), and Tar Wars are some of the programs supported by funding raised.

Many have generously donated and/or joined in the fun at the auction event.  We are hoping to increase the number of donations and the number of bidders. The wine reception and auction is a fun time to socialize with your friends and colleagues while your generous bidding on wonderful items adds to the excitement of the evening.

Any and all items, large or small, are appreciated and help towards our goal of increasing the amount of money brought in by this auction.  If you'd like help in thinking of items, here are a few suggestions: crafts made by doctors or family, passes to athletic clubs, restaurant packages (meal for 4 at nice restaurant--ask the restaurant to donate the meal to bring in new clients), golf green fees (ask your club to donate rounds or coupons), a weekend at a cabin at a nearby lake.   Other items could include autographed sports memorabilia from Husker Hounds or the University of Nebraska Athletic Department, as they are always popular items with the bidders.  You can visit Huskers Authentic at 625 Stadium Drive in Lincoln or http://www.huskers.com/sell/SellHome.dbml.  You may also telephone the store at (402) 472-3633 or (800) 965-8674.  Be creative!  Your imagination and your business contacts (travel companies, car dealerships) could also come up with some really great ideas.

Do you have an item for our Foundation auctions?

THE ABFM MC-FP EXAMINATION IS MOVING TO APRIL IN 2012

Beginning in 2012, the ABFM MC-FP examination will be held in April instead of July.  Diplomates who are in good standing and hold a currently valid, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US or Canada are eligible to apply for and take the examination.

Residents who are in good standing and expected to complete training on or about July 1, 2012 are eligible to take the April 2012 examination. A currently valid, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US or Canada is not required for residents to apply for and take the April examination. Certification will be awarded when all of the criteria are met:

1. Successful performance on the ABFM MC-FP Examination

2. The Program Director verifies that the resident has successfully met all of the ACGME

    program requirements

3. The candidate obtains a currently valid, full, and unrestricted license to practice

medicine in the US or Canada

These conditions must be met by December 31, 2012.

The dates for the April 2012 MC-FP Examination are:

April 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, 17, 18, 19, 21

The MC-FP Examination will also be offered in November for candidates who fail the spring administration of the examination, or for those residents in good standing who are off-cycle and are expected to complete training on or about December 31, 2012.

The dates for the November 2012 MC-FP Examination are:

November 7, 8, 9, 10

As with the April exam, Diplomates who are in good standing and hold a currently valid, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US or Canada are eligible to apply for and take the examination.

A currently valid, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the US or Canada is not necessary for residents to apply for and take the exam, but in order to be awarded certification, the same three criteria listed above must be met by July 1 of the following year.
