Rural Summer Externship for Medical Students
The Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians together with the NAFP-Foundation is seeking 1st or 2nd year medical students with a strong interest in Family Medicine during the summer of 2021. The purpose of this six-week Externship is to introduce medical students to the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) and the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) model of care. The student will work in multiple locations over a six-week period. The student would have the opportunity to see how the Patient-Centered Medical Home concept is integrated into the policies of the ACO and how the medical director helps guide the members of the ACO in developing and implementing the Patient-Centered Medical Home model within their clinic. More information about the specific locations will be available in the Spring.
The stipend for the six-week program is $2,500 and housing will be provided. Stipends will be received in two equal installments - the first installment will be distributed at the start of the Externship, and the second installment will be distributed at the completion of the Externship. Dates will be flexible with recipients schedule. We are tentatively looking to begin the six-week process in late May or early June. To read about the experience of the 2020 extern, click here!

- To conduct yourself in a professional manner and be accountable to your matched preceptor and the executive director of the NAFP and NAFP-Foundation.
- To be a learner, not expecting to behave as a physician. The NAFP/NAFP-Foundation wants you to enjoy your experience.
