Charles F. Ashby, MD, New Family Physician Scholarship

The Charles F. Ashby, MD, Scholarship is made possible by a donation from Mrs. Jean Ashby and family. Dr. Ashby was a charter and 60-year member of the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians, and served the Academy in many roles including President (1964) and the Nebraska Family Physician of the Year (1992). Dr. Ashby continued the tradition of a "Dr. Ashby in Fillmore County" since 1885, following in the footsteps of his father and great-uncle. He was active in state and local affairs, medical society affiliations, community and public service and was often recognized for charitable work and philanthropic activities. "Doctor," as he was known to most in his community, was dedicated to Family Medicine and the medical profession with a deep commitment to his patients until the day he died.

This $3,000 scholarship honors Dr. Ashby and his invaluable contribution to Family Medicine and will be presented to a Nebraska Academy of Family Physician, new physician member (out of residency for seven years or less) at the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians' DeRoin Memorial Luncheon on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in conjunction with the 76th Annual Meeting and Scientific Assembly at the Younes Conference Center North in Kearney, NE. The winner will be selected by the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians Foundation scholarship selection committee and must be present on Saturday, March 23, 2024, to accept the award.
