DeRoin Memorial Scholarships for Medical Students

William A. DeRoin, MD, and his son Dennis DeRoin, MD, were well-respected leaders within the field of Family Medicine and very active in the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians. They both served as NAFP President as well as serving on numerous state and national committees. Dr. William DeRoin was instrumental in the formation of the Family Medicine Interest Groups and both Drs. William DeRoin & Dennis DeRoin were very involved with mentoring students. Two (2) $2,000 DeRoin Scholarships have been created in their memory. These awards will be presented to two (2) selected students at the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians DeRoin Memorial Luncheon on Saturday, March 23, 2024, in conjunction with the 76th Annual Meeting and Scientific Assembly at the Younes Conference Center North in Kearney, NE. The winners will be selected by the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians Foundation scholarship selection committee and must be present to accept the award. 

Criteria: 

  • NAFP member
  • Member of Family Medicine Interest Group at your school
  • Nebraska native
  • Attending Creighton University Medical School or the University of Nebraska Medical Center
  • Demonstrates a financial need
  • Has a strong interest in Family Medicine
