Joe & Linda Miller Family Medicine Scholarship
The Joe & Linda Miller Family Medicine Scholarship honors the enduring leadership and continued service of Dr. Joseph Miller and his wife, Linda. A member since 1982, Dr. Miller has been a cornerstone of the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians (NAFP) for over four decades. His extensive service includes tenures as Past President and a long-time board member; he remains deeply active today as the NAFP Foundation President, Legislative Chair, and an AAFP Delegate.
Beyond Nebraska, Dr. Miller has shaped the specialty nationally through his work on the AAFP Commission for Quality and Practice. This scholarship celebrates the Millers' legacy of advocacy and humanitarianism— from Dr. Miller leading 19 medical mission trips to Haiti, to Linda’s many years of public service on the City Council, leadership in many local volunteer organizations and her active leadership within the Lutheran Church community locally and statewide. By supporting future physicians who share this tireless commitment to both the Academy and their local community, the Millers continue to invest in the future of Nebraska.
This $2,000 education grant has been instituted to defray expenses of medical students interested in Family Medicine. Applicants for this scholarship must demonstrate a strong interest in staying to practice in Nebraska and a specific interest in incorporating obstetrics (OB) into their future family medicine practice. It will be presented to the recipients at the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians' DeRoin Memorial Luncheon on Saturday, March 14, 2026, in conjunction with the 78th Annual Meeting and Scientific Assembly at the Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center in Lincoln, NE. The winner will be selected by the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians Foundation scholarship selection committee and must be present on Saturday, March 14, 2026, to accept the award.
