  • The Charles F. Ashby, MD, Scholarship is made possible by a donation from Mrs. Jean Ashby and family. This $3,000 scholarship will be given in his memory to two (2) new NAFP Physicians (out of residency for seven years or less) practicing in Nebraska. This scholarship honors Dr. Ashby and his invaluable contributions to Family Medicine.

  • This scholarship is created in memory of the father-in-law of current NAFP President, Dr. Jayashree Paknikar, honoring a man who dedicated his entire medical career to the selfless service of rural communities in India. To carry forward his profound legacy of commitment to underserved populations, this $2,000 scholarship is designed to support a new family physician—within their first five years of practice—who is pledging their career to provide essential care in rural or western Nebraska.

  • Donald J. Larson, MD, was a valued member and Past President of the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians. He was an acclaimed teacher of Family Medicine graduate education and served as a program director of the Lincoln Family Practice Program from 1988-1995 (now known as the Lincoln Family Medicine Program). This $1,000 scholarship has been created in Dr. Larson's memory and will be presented annually to a resident who is interested in Family Medicine in a rural practice.

  • William A. DeRoin, MD, and his son, Dennis DeRoin, MD, were well-respected leaders within the field of Family Medicine and very active in the Nebraska Academy of Family Physicians. Two (2) $2,000 DeRoin scholarships have been created in their memory. These awards are presented annually to two Nebraska natives attending either Creighton University Medical School or The University of Nebraska Medical School. These two students should demonstrate financial need and have a strong interest in Family Medicine.

  • Established by the late Dr. Stuart Embury and his wife, Lynn, this scholarship serves as a tribute to Dr. Embury’s 50 years of service in Family Practice. Following his passing in 2025, the $2,500 grant continues to support medical students dedicated to the future of Family Medicine. This scholarship is intended to defray expenses for students committed to remaining in Nebraska for their medical practice.

  • The Joe & Linda Miller Family Medicine Scholarship is made possible by the generous commitment and lifelong leadership of Dr. Joseph Miller and his wife, Linda. This $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to a medical student interested in Family Medicine who intends to practice in Nebraska and incorporate obstetrics into their future care. This scholarship honors the Millers’ over 40 years of service to the NAFP and their shared legacy of public, humanitarian, and medical leadership.
